About us

In common, two women, mothers and nurses specialising in maternal health who are passionate about birth, physiology, observing signs of health (with an "eye" for deviations from those same signs), and the miracle of giving birth to a life in LOVE.

Both having attended home births since 2018, each with their own story, they met in 2020 and began working as a team at the end of that year.

"We are committed to differentiated, high-quality care, with and for the FAMILY"

They become friends, realising that they are united by a great deal of trust, humility, empathy, a deep common desire to "infect" all the people around them, families and professionals with respect for childbirth, centred on the Woman/Pregnant Person.

And so, in 2023, Love Home Birth was born. A team that has begun to grow in the meantime and wants to make a difference by focusing on high-quality, differentiated maternal health and obstetric nursing care with and for the FAMILY.

Welcome!

Team

Love Home Birth

What sets us apart?

Our team includes several enthusiastic EESMO nurses who are committed to changing the world one birth at a time. Each with their own background and different experiences, but we all share the same vision: "To change the world, you have to change the way you give birth" Michel Odent

Our care is personalised and adapted to each pregnant woman/family, taking into account not only their specific needs and characteristics, but also their deepest wishes and aspirations for this very special moment in their lives.

We believe that the quality of the care we provide is due to the exclusivity we maintain: limiting the number of clients, working in our community (professionals and families in close proximity) and our high level of dedication and commitment to guaranteeing unique and happy experiences.

As a team, we favour constant communication, regularly organising meetings to discuss clinical cases, exchange experiences, simulate challenging situations and update protocols.
We are committed to continuous training, constantly integrating scientific knowledge and updating our daily practice. This contributes to effective teamwork and safer care.

We are very enthusiastic about the work we do and we believe that this way of working with pregnant women and their families generates greater autonomy, excellent health gains and more joy, more confidence and more love. Both for the pregnant women and their families and for us.

About

Érica Ruivo

Co-Founder

Nurse specialising in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing/Nurse Midwife, I have always dedicated my work to the area of maternal health.

In this context, I have taken part in various training programmes and internships, where special people and places have inspired me and helped reveal the midwife I am today.

For example, the Breastfeeding Facilitator training with Cristina Pincho, the Perinatal Educator training with Ricardo Jones or the internship at the Sofia Feldman Hospital in Brazil.

I'm passionate about care that favours women's autonomy in their reproductive journey, free and informed choices, childbirth as an event with enormous transformative power in women's lives, which involves emotional, endocrine, family, social and spiritual components, and especially the work I've been doing in recent years as an independent midwife and in the context of home birth.

I consider myself an activist for women's rights in pregnancy and childbirth. That's why I'm a founding member of the Portuguese Association for Women's Rights in Pregnancy and Childbirth, and have collaborated on various projects for this valuable association.

What's more, I'm also the great-granddaughter of traditional midwives, whom I didn't know, but through family stories, and perhaps through epigenetic inheritance, I'm still learning things that aren't taught in schools. The daughter of a mother who is so generous with her affections and who has a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, from whom I also learn so much. And the daughter of an architect father from whom I inherited the ability to always marvel at the beauty of life.
