In Home Birth Care, care is continuous, personalised and holistic, centred on the woman and her family throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
During pregnancy, four sessions will be held by two Nurses Specialising in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing (EEESMO).
These sessions will focus on preparing for childbirth and parenthood, and are privileged moments to talk about:
healthy pregnancy (diet, exercise...)
planning the birth (plan A and B)
labour at home
breastfeeding
baby care | baby's needs
life with a baby
needs of the "new" family
Labour is monitored by an EHESMO, who will assess the most appropriate time for the pregnant woman to go to hospital.
The postpartum home visit will include a full assessment of mum and baby, health education on various topics relevant to this stage, breastfeeding support, the baby's foot test, assessment of the baby's vital signs and weight, assessment of the mother's vital signs, blood loss, uterine involution, perineum, and more.
