When we found out that we were pregnant, we weren\u2019t necessarily planning to have a home birth, but decided to go that way after realising that a birth pool wouldn\u2019t be accessible any other way in Lisbon. It was important for us to find a midwife who would not only support us in having a physiological birth, but also understand the hospital system, should it go that way.\n\nWe were so pleased when we found \u00c9rica\u2019s profile\u2014and even more pleased when we met her in person. We instantly felt at ease with \u00c9rica, and it was a pleasure to have her come into our home. She ensured we were prepared for all scenarios, and when it came to the \u201cmain event,\u201d her grounded, confident presence and calm demeanour helped us not only to deliver our son safely, but also in such a beautiful way.\n\nBirthing my son was a deeply healing experience for me after a traumatic birth with my first son, and I cannot thank \u00c9rica and Margarida enough for their support during one of the best experiences of my life.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Our journey with Erica started quite early. I first spoke to her when I was 14 weeks pregnant with our first baby, after receiving a glowing recommendation from another midwife in southern Portugal.\n\nMy husband and I were new to Portugal and hoping for a home birth. More than anything, we wanted to feel safe in an unfamiliar environment and to be well informed, so we could navigate the chaotic and miraculous journey of birth with confidence.\n\nFrom our very first conversation, we felt at ease with Erica. She brought warmth, attentiveness, and a reassuring sense of calm that stayed with us throughout the pregnancy. She guided us through every technical and practical aspect with clarity and kindness, always making time for our questions and concerns.\n\nAs the birth approached and fears naturally surfaced, Erica created a space where we could speak openly and honestly. For me, it was important to build a relationship based on mutual trust and respect rather than a traditional doctor-patient dynamic, and that developed naturally over time. She provided us with articles, videos, and evidence-based information, empowering us to make informed decisions while always keeping safety at the center of the process. She navigated my changing needs and desires with remarkable flexibility, striking a balance between honoring my autonomy and safeguarding the wellbeing of both me and my baby.\n\nDuring the birth itself, I felt completely supported by Erica and Margarida. They instinctively understood my need for independence and offered exactly the right support at the right moments. Because I trusted Erica\u2019s expertise so deeply, I was able to surrender fully to the experience. A few simple, clear suggestions from her made a crucial difference in the progression of my labor.\n\nAfter approximately 13 hours of contractions, including four hours of active labor, our daughter was born peacefully in Erica\u2019s birth pool. She landed gently at the bottom of the water, and as we all looked down at her, Erica calmly said, \u201cLift her up in one motion.\u201d I did, and our baby opened her big black eyes and took her first breath.\n\nFollowing the birth, Erica patiently stitched a tear right there on our living room couch, allowing us to remain in the comfort of our home. Looking back, I can only describe her presence throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum as a blessing. Birth was the most painful, challenging, and powerful experience of my life, yet it also felt deeply right.\n\nThank you, Erica, for your patience, generosity, and unwavering support. Thank you for being available for every question, big or small, and for sharing not only your expertise as a midwife and nurse but also your wisdom as a mother. Your clarity, attention to detail, and thoughtful communication gave us confidence as we welcomed our first child in a new country.\n\nThank you also for your flexibility and your attentiveness to my wishes, as well as for not compromising on safety.\n\nBirth is difficult and painful, but with your support we truly had the birth of our dreams. Em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao acompanhamento, a minha opini\u00e3o \u00e9 muito positiva j\u00e1 que as consultas pr\u00e9-parto foram longas e permitiram esclarecer todas as d\u00favidas em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao parto em casa. Especialmente gostei da parte humana (carinho, aten\u00e7\u00e3o). Durante o parto o que eu mais gostei foi a r\u00e1pida chegada quando eu precisei, senti confian\u00e7a na equipa e serenidade dando-me a confian\u00e7a de que ia ser capaz de tudo. No p\u00f3s parto gostei muito das consultas e senti que aprendi coisas importantes. (...) Achei o acompanhamento mais humano e mais respeitoso que no acompanhamento tradicional (...).\n\nO Jo\u00e3o faz das minhas as suas palavras e adiciona que sem d\u00favida escolhemos o caminho certo. Foi a melhor maneira de trazer a este mundo a nossa pequena Allegra.<\/p>\r\n\t

I am so grateful for my birth team. I have felt supported throughout pregnancy, birth and post-partum which has definitely been the hardest part. \u00c9rica and Mar\u00edlia forms such a great duo that I would recommend to anyone. They are very caring and supportive, yet has empowered me to make my own decisions and be independent throughout. They made me realise my new role as a mother in a gentle, yet empowering way. \n\nI really like their devotion during birth too and really did not push me at all into whatever situations which would have been more comfortable for them. It was all about me and the baby which I really loved! We had to make the hard decision to transfer to the hospital after more than 24 hours of labor, and again, this was done in a empowering and calm way. It was my decision! They knew nurses at the hospital which made things easier and I felt reassured. \n\nThey also remained available during post partum and I consider them as my baby's aunties \ud83d\ude42 \n\n<\/p>\r\n\t

We loved to have you with us and we felled super safe and happy in your 4 able hands.\nI loved that you two always used a lot of time when you where with us. I never felled you where in a rush. That was very nice. Also the informations where clear and complied. I felled that you know what you are doing. Your calm attitude made me feel safe and enabled me to go true all of it. I was amazed that you know our birthplace and respected it to the dot without us even thinking about that we had a birthplan. During the birth I felt you where always there and the same time we felt like in our own little bobble. You two stepped up to help just on the right moment, when Gareth needed his rest. \nIt was a beautiful surprise to give Jacob good wishes when we cut the cord. Very nice. It made it special and personal and not too spiritual. Thanks for that. Your help after birth here at home and with \u201cwhatsapp\u201d was very important for me. Nosso primeiro filho nasceu em um parto domiciliar planejado no Brasil, e a decis\u00e3o da nossa mudan\u00e7a de pa\u00eds envolvia encontrar uma equipe que pudesse nos auxiliar a ter nosso segundo beb\u00ea tamb\u00e9m em casa. (...) Mar\u00edlia e \u00c9rica estavam sempre em contato conosco e assim que chegamos vieram nos conhecer e iniciar o pr\u00e9 natal presencialmente. Pra mim, o mais importante de ter esse acompanhamento domiciliar \u00e9 o v\u00ednculo que \u00e9 criado com as pessoas que estar\u00e3o presentes no dia do parto, a gente acaba conhecendo todos que estar\u00e3o l\u00e1, e isso passa uma seguran\u00e7a maior. \nO trabalho delas foi impec\u00e1vel, elas estiveram sempre dispon\u00edveis e sol\u00edcitas, e muito zelosas com minha sa\u00fade e a da Serena. Todas as quest\u00f5es que surgiram durante a gesta\u00e7\u00e3o e o parto foram esclarecidas e as decis\u00f5es foram tomadas por mim e meu marido, elas nos deixavam a par das situa\u00e7\u00f5es mas quem dava a \u00faltima palavra sempre \u00e9ramos n\u00f3s, e ter esse poder de decis\u00e3o respeitado \u00e9 muito importante. \nO parto aconteceu maravilhosamente bem assim como as visitas de p\u00f3s parto.\nTer um parto domiciliar sempre foi nossa op\u00e7\u00e3o pelo fato de considerarmos o nascer um evento fisiol\u00f3gico, e nossa vontade \u00e9 estar em nosso lar, em um ambiente acolhedor, com pessoas que nos passem seguran\u00e7a.\n<\/p>\r\n\t

Escolher a Mar\u00edlia e a \u00c9rica para acompanhar a minha gravidez foi a melhor decis\u00e3o que poderia ter feito. Desde a primeira consulta foram sempre muito queridas e atenciosas, dando o seu acompanhamento com muito carinho. Preocupavam-se com o meu bem-estar em todas as \u00e1reas \u2013 f\u00edsica, emocional, etc. Tamb\u00e9m nos deram, a mim e \u00e0 minha companheira, toda a informa\u00e7\u00e3o que precis\u00e1vamos em cada etapa da gravidez, o que nos fez sentir mais seguras em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a todo o processo e me deixou mais confiante nas minhas capacidades de parir. Tinham sempre muita paci\u00eancia para todas as nossas d\u00favidas e estavam dispon\u00edveis por Whatsapp fora das consultas. Nunca senti que estavam com pressa (o que \u00e9 invulgar num acompanhamento convencional).\n\nO meu parto foi marcante como qualquer um, mas no meu caso foi ainda mais pelo acompanhamento que tive. A \u00c9rica, a Mar\u00edlia foram incr\u00edveis. Criaram um espa\u00e7o seguro e cheio de amor para a minha filha entrar no mundo e permitiram-me ter o parto que sonhava ter. Terei recorda\u00e7\u00f5es muito boas para o resto da minha vida. O apoio no p\u00f3s-parto tamb\u00e9m excedeu as expectativas, principalmente no que toca \u00e0 amamenta\u00e7\u00e3o. Devido a algumas dificuldades que tive, n\u00e3o sei se teria sido capaz de continuar a amamentar sem esse apoio que me deram inicialmente. E mais uma vez, continuavam sempre dispon\u00edveis para as nossas d\u00favidas por Whatsapp.(...)\n\nH\u00e1 muitas inc\u00f3gnitas e medos que acompanham uma primeira gravidez e parto, mas posso dizer sem d\u00favida que os passei mais tranquila e feliz por causa do acompanhamento que tive. Foi \u00edntimo e personalizado \u2013 exatamente o que desejava. Recomendo esta equipa maravilhosa sem hesita\u00e7\u00e3o alguma.\n<\/p>\r\n\t
